TRAVEL TO CANADA WITH A DUI
If you have a DUI conviction on your record, you likely will have trouble traveling to Canada. Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act says that individuals with criminal records are “inadmissible,” and will NOT be allowed to enter Canada. If the offense could be prosecuted as a felony in Canada the person is not allowed to enter Canada. DUIs can be prosecuted as felonies in Canada (as they can in many US states, normally based on the number of prior offenses). There are actions one can take if they must travel to Canada, but you need to start well in advance of the trip in order to get things in place – if that is even possible. Also, if ten years have passed since the probation or other sentence has been completed, one likely will be considered rehabilitated and able to travel.
