REQUESTED TO TALK TO POLICE OFFICER?

David B. Harrison June 18, 2019

You should know that you do not have to talk to a police officer just because the officer asks you to. Depending on the situation, a person can provide new evidence or add to the evidence police have against them (without knowing they are doing so) by saying things the person thinks don’t matter or are unimportant – or things they think “prove” they did not commit a crime. The police are allowed to “make up things” that they say they “know” to make you think they already have certain evidence, even when they don’t. It always makes sense to speak with a lawyer prior to deciding whether to speak to the police. Please call us before making a decision whether to speak to the police. A little advise up front can save a big hassle later.
